Day 1  BAMAKO Arrival at Bamako welcome and transfer at  hotel.

Day 2 BAMAKO – DJENNE Departure for Djenné (550 kms). Visit of animist Bobo villages and crossing of the river Bani. After lunch, visit of the famous mosque made with local sand part of the world cultural heritage. Sunset from the roofs of the city. Dinner and night in a camp in Djenné.

Day 3 DJENNE-DOGON COUNTRY In the morning, visit of a typical weekly market, explanations on local craft industry and technique of bogolan (tincture with clay on fabric). After lunch, departure for Dogon country (200 kms). Following down the picturesque path of the cliff, you will meet your guide who will greet you with a traditional welcome together with the wise men, guardians of ancestral rites. He will explain the Dogon cosmogony and the ancient symbols: the part of the Hogon, the importance of masks, the hidden power of women, and the architecture of the dwellings, of the millet attics and of the sacred places. Dinner and night at the camp.

Day 4 DOGON COUNTRY Departure for one day venture off the beaten track through the villages of Sadia, Doko, Kani, Teli, Endé and Bégnématou “the eagle nest”. Visit by 4wd or by foot depending on what you prefer: The route of ancestors, the Tellems (troglodyte dwellings) and panoramic sight, visit the Guinna “house of the patriarch” and meeting with traditional healers, blacksmiths, and wise men of divination, farmers and craft men. Dinner and night in the camp.

Day 5 DOGON COUNTRY Continuation of the Dogon’s immersion: dancing of masks and visit of villages of the cliff Terely, Amani (sacred crocodiles) Ireli, and Banani. Dinner and night at the camp.

Day 6 DOGON COUNTRY – MOPTI Late in the morning, departure for Mopti. Visit of the city, its market, port and mosque, its historical area. An aperitif will be served at sunset. Dinner and night in a very special and comfortable hotel.

Day 7 RIVER NIGER Cruise on a traditional and local boat (pinasse), visit of Bozo fishermen villages and of Fulani farmer camps. Lunch on the river bank. Arrival at Guidio, a village of Sahel where we will dinner and bivouac on the riverbanks in the sand.

Day 8 DEBO LAKE We will continue our journey to the heart of the Debo lake, a true inner sea of Mali, we will picnic and then bivouac on the white dunes of Waki.

Day 9 WAKI – TIMBUKTU We will get to Timbuktu by river at the end of the day, and reach the desert for a night in a Tuareg camp. Riding on camelback at sunset, we then will have dinner (mechoui) with comments by a historian specialist on the theme of mysterious Timbuktu, then traditional dances.

Day 10 TIMBUKTU GOURMA  After a visit of Timbuktu, we’ll head off for the mountainous regions of Gourma, have lunch in Douentza, ride down the mountains and watch sunset over the pink dunes in front of Mount Hombori (highest peak in Mali). Dinner and night at the camp.

Day 11 FOLLOWING THE TRACKS OF THE ELEPHANTS We will try to spot the last elephants of western Africa (they freely move from Malian to Burkina boundaries), visit the labyrinth village of Hombori. Dinner and night in the camp with a Fulani musical party.

Day 12 MOUNTAIN AND OASIS WITH SACRED CROCODILES We shall leave Hombori and reach the Hand of Fatima, the mountain with a thousand legends, visit Borko the greenest village of Mali, an unbelievable oasis with sacred crocodiles; we’ll picnic in the heights, under secular palm trees, and then depart for Mopti. Dinner and night at hotel.

Day 13 MOPTI – SEGOU We leave Mopti for Ségou, the capital of Bambara ancient kingdom, visit the city of the 4444+1balazans trees (karité) along the river Niger and meet various craftsmen: potters, traditional carpet weavers. Dinner and night in the hotel.

Day 14 SEGOU – BAMAKO – PARIS We get back to the Malian capital city in the morning. After leaving Ségou, we will make a short stop in Sékoro, former capital of the Bambara kingdom. After lunch, free afternoon in Bamako then transfer to airport and departure.

 

The period of visit is preferably from July to March circuit under the basis of 4 persons it’s possible also for 1 or 2 peoples
